why databases
Animart was established over 30 years ago as a design consultancy. Many 'design' clients also asked for marketing input. So Animart brought to each company their knowledge gained from a other projects, businesses and sectors. They became more 'marketing' focused and helped with seeing the bigger picture, marketing strategies and organising whole events. They worked with sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and plcs. They covered many sectors - services, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, wholesale and farming! Their ability to transfer and apply their skills and knowledge being a real benefit to clients.
As projects became bigger, the plethora of data that needed co-ordinating increased. In the early days of desk top computers, spreadsheets were used to track projects, customers, quotes, cash flows, projections, budgets, quantities etc. As projects became more complicated spreadsheets revealed their limitations so bespoke databases were written to cope with each project's unique criteria. They were more flexible, adaptable and basically far more useful. Often, from these projects, whole business systems were developed as companies appreciated the difference a bespoke database made. They were always written in the style of how the companies conducted their business - their existing methods, procedures and practices. Managers found they didn't need to spend months either researching and learning new software or training staff. They were no longer frustrated with having to try and adapt a selection of off-the-shelf software that had tons of features (much of which were not relevant - yet missing many basic things that would have been). A purpose written database just automated what they were already doing. It gave them confidence in using their data. It enabled them to glean so much more relevant and useful reports. It aided marketing. It saved labour and costs. It didn't hinder their growth, but encouraged it. And... they were able to add new 'relevant' features when and how they wanted.
Animart now focus on working with companies and designing those bespoke database systems - often for new businesses. In fact clients recognise that a bespoke database (and Animart's input) is like an experienced Office Manager setting up simple automated procedures that will last and are easily followed by (old and new) staff. Surely a good foundation for any business to build upon. Animart also work closely with associates who specialise in websites, web based applications and seamless IT systems.
